What is blogging

meaning of blogging

Blogging is a way of earning money online by sharing your knowledge and thoughts.

For example, if you have knowledge on a topic such as computers, the internet, cars, bikes, search engine optimization, or even general knowledge, you can set up a blog and make money online by sharing your knowledge through various articles which are commonly known as posts.

So, you can understand that a blog can be on any topic (niche). I’ll give you another example for better understanding.

For example – If you have good knowledge about blogging or search engine optimization, you can start a blog on the topic of blogging. And you can post articles on it like what is blogging and what is a blog, etc.

The right way to write articles in blogging

But you have to remember that it does not matter how many articles you write, but what really matters is that you have to write all your articles on one topic.
For example, if you are running a blog on the topic of cars, you can't just start writing about bikes or any other vehicle on your blog. You have to keep writing about cars on it.

Don't get confused, I am also a niche blogger and I write articles related to blogging, search engine optimization, digital marketing, and social media marketing on this blog. And all this comes under one niche that is business.

This is because if you write articles on multiple topics, Google or any other search engine gets confused about the main niche (topic) of your blog.
And therefore, your blog is not able to rank on Google or any other search engine.

But still, if you want to write your articles on a variety of topics, you can create categories for different topics on your blog.
This helps Google and other search engines rank your blog posts (articles) under different categories that are specified by you.

Multi niche blogging

So, now that we’ve seen what is blogging, and I expect that through this, you have well understood what is blogging.

Now, let’s take a look at what is a blog.

What is a blog?

what is a blog in blogging

A blog is a medium to convey your thoughts and knowledge.

Earlier, a blog was an online diary or a journal. It was used to post and show your diary entries and your thoughts to the world.
But now, the purpose of starting and running a blog has totally changed.

Earlier, there was no scope in blogging and people considered it an activity that leads to time wastage.
But now, blogging has a scope of success.

And hence, almost every second person you meet has successfully opened a blog and is working on it.

And now, you can even earn through blogging.
This is possible because of Google Adsense and other services that show ads on our blog and help us earn money from blogging.

To show ads, certain requirements have to be met.

And nowadays, blogging is common amongst people and people have opened blogs on a variety of topics like health, technology, fitness, lifehacks, etc.

These blogs are opened for a purpose and there are two purposes to set up a blog. They are as follows:

  • For-profit blogs
  • Non-profit blogs

For-profit blogs - the first purpose of blogging

These blogs are opened for the purpose of making a profit and earning money through them.

These blogs are very common amongst the bloggers (a blogger is a person who runs a blog) and almost every blogger has opened his/her blog for this purpose i.e. earning money and making a profit from it.

These bloggers earn money from their blog by getting approval from an ad service and then displaying ads on their blog.
So, whenever anyone clicks on the ad that is displayed on their blog, the blogger gets paid by the ad service.

Non-profit blogs - the second purpose of blogging

These blogs are different from for-profit blogs.

These blogs can get the approval of an ad service and then start earning by displaying ads on their sites, but they don't do that.

They don't want to earn money by displaying ads on their blog or any other way like affiliate marketing.
They just want to provide knowledge or share their thoughts with their readers.

And these blogs are found very rarely because these days, everyone wants to make a profit and earn money online.

So, till now, we’ve covered what is blogging and what is a blog.

Now, let’s take a look at the type of blogs.

Types of blogs - The different types of blogs in blogging

types of blogs in blogging

There are 7 types of blogs. Actually, there are more than 7 types of blogs but these are the most common and the main ones.

If you try searching "Types of blogs" on the internet, you will get thousands of results. But the fact is that all blogs and websites have different views on the types of blogs.

According to some sites, the different types of blogs include architecture, technology, fashion, lifestyle, etc. But actually, they are wrong.

These are not the types of blogs. They are blog niches, the topics on which a blog can be started.

In reality, there are 7 types of blogs which are listed below.

1. Personal Blogs

This type of blog is one of the most common types of blog on the internet. It is used for sharing your personal experiences, diary, or your personal thoughts or views on a topic.

This type of blog is known as an online journal or web diary in the language of blogging. Almost 20 - 30% of the blogs of the word are these types of blogs i.e. personal blogs.

You can post your diary entries or journals every day or any time you want. These types of bloggers are known as personal bloggers as they write about their personal life and experiences.

If you want to start a personal blog, it is recommended that you set it up on Blogger, Google's blogging platform. We will learn more about how to set up a blog later in this post.

2. Business blogs

This type of blog is opened by a person who is running a business. It is started with the purpose of making a profit, which we have already seen.

In detail, these blogs are opened for driving traffic to their business and sales. They are generally opened by people who sell any product or those who are running a business or a company.

These bloggers are known as business bloggers as their main aim of these types of bloggers is to drive traffic, get exposure, and hence, customers for their business.

And therefore, these bloggers do not write about them, as the personal bloggers do. In fact, they write about their business, promote it, and try to achieve more customers according to their aim.

3. Professional Blogs

These types of blogs are for-profit blogs. And as we’ve already seen, for-profit blogs are those blogs that want to make money through blogging.

These types of bloggers are known as professional bloggers. The main aim of professional bloggers is to earn money online through their blog and their blogging efforts.

To achieve these goals, almost 40-50% of these bloggers use ways such as paid ads, sharing their articles on Youtube in the form of a video, etc.

These bloggers either make one blog or more than one blog on different niches (topics) and try to earn through them. Then, they continue with the one which works.

4. Niche Blogs

I have already briefed you a little bit about this type of blog in the “what is blogging” part, but I’ll do that in detail here.

These types of blogs focus only on one single topic (niche) and keep writing content related to that topic on that blog. They do not write content on multiple topics.

For example- the topic of their blog can be food, health, technology, sports, etc. But not all these topics together in one blog.

As these blogs are only on one niche, the bloggers that run these types of blogs are known as niche bloggers. And by the way, I am also a niche blogger because my blog - Blogging Meal is also a niche blog and my niche is business.

And as I’ve already told you in the starting, these types of blogs are generally considered great in the eyes of Google.

5. Affiliate Blogs

These types of blogs are also opened for earning through blogging but in a different way. These bloggers make money by affiliate marketing.

This means that they will write reviews of products that are owned by others and encourage the viewers to go and by their products.

Now, to buy the products, these blogs have affiliate links which means that whenever someone purchases a product through the link on their blog, they get some amount of commission. And this commission is given to the blogger by the creator of that particular product.

As these blogs are affiliate blogs, the bloggers behind these blogs are called affiliate bloggers.

6. Freelancing Blogs

These types of blogs earn money by providing services to people online. For example – some blogs provide services for writing content for others. And after the content writing part has been done, the person who ordered the content pays the blog.

So, as you can see, these types of blogs are making money by freelancing. Therefore, these bloggers are known as freelance bloggers.

Generally, these blogs make more money than professional and affiliate blogs. But it is not easy to earn through these blogs because if the customers are not happy with your service, they will not choose your service again.

Conclusion

In this post, we’ve seen what is blogging, what is a blog, the purposes of a blog and finally, the types of blogs.
